Diagnostic Assessment is defined as a pre-assessment that allows educators to evaluate student’s weaknesses, strengths, and overall knowledge and skills in relation to a certain topic prior to instruction. Often, the same assessment is given after instruction to explicitly show how students have grown.
This is highly encouraged for implementation as it allows you to assess where the class stands as a whole as well as students individual strengths and needs. Additionally, this form of assessment will guide the creation of meaningful and effective instruction that is individualized for the greatest opportunity of success. It aids in instructional design and ensures students have the background knowledge they need in order to understand new concepts and perform new skills.
