Week 3 Summary
Posted On July 5, 2021
I learned so much from this week studying audio story telling. Prior to this week, I had never utilized Audacity or Free Sounds and now am comfortable creating with both! I am very proud of how far I have come in such a short period.
By far, I learned the most from listening to Ira Glass and Jad Abumrad. Not only are they both well versed and incredibly informative, but as essentially professional story tellers they are able to teach in a very interesting and engaging way. I was able to see immediately how much more interesting story telling is when utilizing their techniques. It was amazing to listen to TED Radio Hour and ScottLo as well as Moon Graffiti after engaging with Glass and Abumrad. From these podcasts, I was able to see how impactful these techniques were, as well as learn the effectiveness of sound bites through their work.
By far, I was challenged most by the Audacity platform. Again, prior to this week I had never used it before. Because of this, it took a lot of time to get into the swing of things prior to actually creating content. However, it was incredibly satisfying once I got it down. Once I was comfortable using Audacity, I began my assignments, such as Story Time Fun Time and Spooky Season. It was so fun to find sound bites that not only fit my story, but enhanced it.
Although I enjoyed the assignments above, I had the most fun creating my ScottLo Podcast Advertisement and DS 106 Radio Bumper. For both of these assignments, I was required to act as though I was on the radio. It was both challenging and fun to take on this role. However, when doing so I had to keep in mind the larger implications of my work. I was creating content that would in some manner represent both Scottlo as well as our course. Because of this, I had to ensure my comments were of course positive as well as accurate.
In terms of what I would do differently, I would have added cover art to my soundclooud bites. I was afraid to do so, however, in fear of copy right infringement. This leads to the question – am I able to utilize pictures that aren’t mine for my personal soundcloud posts?
In addition to the work I have listed above, I also furthered my participation by Commenting on my classmates pages. It was very cool to see how their websites were set up as well as how they approached assignments in comparison to myself. Additionally, I engaged with classmates through my Daily Creates of the week.
Overall, I feel as though I completed this weeks assignments fully and creatively. I am proud of how far I have come in just a week and how much my knowledge of audio storytelling has expanded. I can’t wait to keep challenging myself and furthering my knowledge going forward.
Thanks for joining me in my corner!
